I ran a spectrum of a sample and a peak shows up around 2300 cm-1. A colleague looked at some charts and told me my sample has a nitrile in it? But I am not sure they are correct. What is that feature?

The first thing you must do before interpreting an infrared spectrum is to make sure that the spectrum is clear of interferences. Carbon dioxide is an atmospheric interferent and if you were not careful and accidentally exhaled into the sample compartment the CO2 will increase substantially. the spectrum is attached
