2018.07.03 Fast Update

We are currently working with five recipients, and we have one "graduate" who has finished his grant. We are also glad to have finalized Pittcon's contribution to our fund. FACSS is offering free registration for Puerto Rico students at the 2018 SciX this October in Atlanta. For more details, see the A pages in the April copy of Applied Spectroscopy or contact Karen Esmonde-White. Shimadzu visited and helped with diagnosis and repair of instruments at UPR-RP partly with our help.

2018.12.31 Wasatch Photonics Donates Raman System

2018.03.05 Vladimir Villanueva-Lopez is now at Northeastern

Graduate Student Vladimir Villanueva Lopez of UPRM is continuing his graduate work at Northeastern in the lab of Prof. Matteo Rinaldi.  He is going to be working with miniaturized sensor systems, incorporating MEMS and QCLs.  Work has started.

2018.02.26 Spectral Systems

Spectral Systems is the primary manufacturer of beamsplitters and other optics used in FTIR instruments.  Spectral Systems with replace optics lost in instruments in Puerto Rico at no charge, if the mounting is sent to them.

2018.02.26 SHS is at Pittcon

2018.02.26 Infrared Associates Detectors

Infrared Associates offers to refurbish or replace their InSb or MCT detectors in any instrument in Puerto Rico.  A majority of FTIR manufacturers use Infrared Associates detectors.  For other brands of detectors, they can offer advice.

2018.02.16 OLIS provides instrument repair for UPRM

We are proud to announce that OLIS is donating instrument repair for UPRM to restore teaching and research labs at UPRM.  OLIS reached out early to SHS to offer their help.  Using funds from the recent Boult Family Foundation, SHS will be able to pay for replacement components.  Other funds will be used for shipping the instrument.

We encourage other instrument manufacturers to make similar efforts.
